Fresno Falcons News Release
Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons announced today that the team has completed two trades with the Texas Wildcatters. In the deals, the Falcons reacquired defenseman P.O. Beaulieu and also acquired forward Colin Shields.
Beaulieu appeared in all 72 games with the Falcons last season, tallying four goals and 10 assists to go along with 67 penalty minutes. The 22-year-old originally signed with the Wildcatters prior to last season, but became a free agent following the Wildcatters' one-season suspension of operations due to Hurricane Rita. His rights reverted back to Texas following the completion of last season.
The 26-year-old Shields is reunited with Falcons head coach Matt Thomas, who coached Shields in Atlantic City during his rookie season in 2004-05, and also at the University of Maine in 2001-02 when Shields scored 29 goals in 42 games. A native of Glasgow, Scotland, Shields spent last season in Europe, scoring 47 points in 31 games with the Belfast Giants. Shields was selected in the sixth round of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers.
