Phoenix RoadRunners News Release
Las Vegas, Nev. - The Las Vegas Wranglers used a four-goal first period en route to a 6-1 victory over the Phoenix RoadRunners before 3,734 at the Orleans Arena in ECHL Pre-Season action Thursday. The two teams will meet again at 7:15 p.m. tomorrow at the Alltel Ice Den in North Scottsdale in a pre-season contest. General Admission tickets will be available at the Alltel Ice Den for $5.
The Wranglers (1-0-0) opened their first period scoring spree at 6:38. Kelly Czuy intercepted a clearing attempt from the defensive zone and slipped the puck behind RoadRunners goaltender Kevin Reiter to give Las Vegas a 1-0 lead. Joe Tallari increased the lead to 2-0 at 10:40 when he buried a shot past Reiter from inside the left circle to the far post off a nifty pass from Derek Edwardson in the corner. Ales Parez added a power play goal at 11:53 after a scramble in front, and Marco Peluso made a nice individual effort to score even strength at 14:43 to make it a 4-0 hockey game after twenty minutes.
The RoadRunners (0-1-0) would break the ice early in the second period with a power play goal by Kyle Musselman at 2:37. From behind the Las Vegas net, Jeff Kyrzakos found Musselman at the top of the crease and Musselman tucked the puck behind Wranglers goaltender Marc Magliarditi to cut the deficit to 4-1. But the Wranglers would regain their four-goal lead back when Lucas Lawson finished off a Steve Crampton cross-ice pass at 7:45.
Crampton capped the scoring at 2:43 of the third period.
Las Vegas out-shot Phoenix 36-28. Reiter stopped 30 shots in taking the loss. The RoadRunners went 1-8 on the power play while the Wranglers were 3-12 on the man advantage.
Individual game tickets for the 2006-07 regular season are currently on sale and can be purchased at the US Airways Center Box Office and at all Ticketmaster outlets including Ticketmaster.com.
Opening Night 2006 at US Airways Center will be on Friday, Oct. 20 when the RoadRunners welcome the Utah Grizzlies at 7:11PM for the first game of an opening weekend three-game series. Information on season tickets, half-season packages, and flex plans are available by calling (602) 462-GOAL.
