
Steelheads acquire two, cut two

BOISE, Idaho -Derek Laxdal, Idaho Steelheads head coach and director of hockey operations announced today the team has added two players and cut two from its training camp roster.
Selected in the eighth round (237th overall) by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, forward Mike Gabinet, played with Idaho most of last season, and will join the team in McCall. The 6-3, 185-pound forward returns to the Steelheads having been at the New York Rangers (NHL) training camp, and then the Hartford Wolfpack (AHL) camp this fall. The 25-year-old played 22 games with the Steelheads last season, scoring 14 points (2g-12a). After being named to the ECHL's All-Star roster, Idaho's AHL affiliate, Iowa Stars called him up. Gabinet finished the season with Iowa, seeing action in 18 games and tallying two assists. Gabinet began the 2005-06 season in the Edmonton Oilers training camp. He played professionally in Finland in 2004-05 and had three points (2g-1a) and 46 penalty minutes in 54 games. He played four seasons at the University of Nebraska at Omaha where he had 47 points (6g-41a) and 138 penalty minutes in 130 career games.
Francis Wathier has been reassigned to Idaho from Iowa. The 6-3, 220-pound forward was drafted by the Dallas Stars, 6th round (185th overall) in 2003. He played 11 games with Iowa last season, making his professional debut for the Stars on October 6th . The 21-year-old played four seasons in the QMJHL (Quebec Major Junior Hockey League) for the Gatineau Olympiques and Hull Olympiques.
The team released forwards Anthony Adams and Lennon Erikkson.
