Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH- The Dayton Bombers opened the preseason portion of their schedule in Cincinnati last night at U.S. Bank Arena as they took on the expansion Cincinnati Cyclones. The Cyclones scored two first period goals en route to a 4-1 victory over the Bombers.

It didn't take long for the Cyclones to take the lead, scoring two goals in the first 1:35 seconds of the opening period. The Bombers would recover soon there after and keep Cincinnati off the board the rest of the first period; and late in the first they cut the lead in half at 2-1.

Tim Konsorada went upstairs underneath the crossbar, with a beautiful snap shot from the low slot area, on Cyclones starter Duv Grumet-Moris late in the first period on the power play at the 18:09 mark. Both teams were undisciplined in the first, despite the three combined goals and the penalty killing units were put to the test early.

In the second period the offense slowed down, but the physical play did not as the Bombers would end up taking four more penalties in the first 12 minutes of the second. But the penalty kill was stellar and continued to keep it close at 2-1. Only down by one goal, the Bombers knew they had to turn up the offense early and often in the third period. They out shot the Cyclones 18-11 in the third period, but Grumet-Moris was in a comfort zone and kept the Bombers off the board all period. Again penalties would cost the Bombers and this time the Cyclones were able to capitalize on their mistakes, scoring two power play goals in the third to make it a 4-1 final.

Both the Bombers and the Cyclones combined for 21 total penalties. The Bombers were 10 for 12 on the penalty kill and the Cyclones were 8 for 9. Cincinnati out shot Dayton 33-30, Duv Grumet-Moris stopped 29 of the 30 shots and the Bombers starting net minder, David Currie stopped 29 of the 33 Cyclone shots.

The Bombers will now travel to Youngstown this Friday, October 13, to take on the Youngstown Steelhounds of the CHL. Then on Saturday, October 14, the Bombers return home to take on the Cyclones once again, with the game being played at the Kettering Recreation Center.
