Wisconsin Rapids Rafters News Release
Kenosha, Wis- It was a wild, offensive affair between the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters (19-30, 7-7) and the Kenosha Kingfish (25-24, 9-8) as the Rafters pulled out the 8-6 victory in 10 innings. Wisconsin Rapids moved to 4-2 in extra inning games
The game was a back and forth affair as the teams traded single runs in the 2nd with Kenosha taking a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the 3rd. It was in the top of the 4th when one of the Northwoods League's hottest hitters, Keelin Rasch (Louisiana Monroe), stepped up and launched a solo home run to tie things up. That was one piece of a huge night for Rasch who also broke the tie in the top of the 6th in a two run frame for the Rafters that gave them a 4-2 lead.
On the mound for Wisconsin Rapids Nick Blackburn (Illinois) battled through 6.2 innings. As he tired the Kingfish made their rally. After Michael Jurgella (St. Cloud State) had hit his first home run of the season in the 7 th to give the Rafters a 6-2 lead, Kenosha exploded for four runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game up. The inning was highlighted by a bases clearing triple off of the bat of Alex Dunlap (Stanford).
After the Rafters' bullpen worked around some trouble in the 8th and 9th the stage was set for the Rats to make their move. After Zack Domingues (Long Beach State) led off the 10th with a single, the Rafters were able to get runners on first and second with Rasch at the plate. Rasch chopped one off of the mitt of the third baseman and as the ball trickled into center field Domingues was able to scamper home. Campbell Wear (UC Santa Barbara) squeezed home an insurance run and Derek Kawlewski (Rhode Island) shut the door in the bottom of the 10th to seal the win.
