Madison Mallards News Release

Madison, WI - The Madison Mallards (12-7, 30-22) were held scoreless in the second game of their July 18th doubleheader, falling to the Willmar Stingers (11-8, 33-16) by a score of 4-0 to end their two day, four game series at 2-2.

Three Stingers pitchers blanked the Mallards on seven hits, while the Stingers scored sporadically, one coming in the first on a Reagan Fowler (Creighton) RBI single and then in the third after Hutton Moyer (Pepperdine) tripled and came in to score on a sacrifice fly. Moyer also scored in the fifth on an overthrow after stealing second base.

Mallards righty Chris Oakley (North Carolina) pitched 2.1 innings, allowing two runs on two hits, walking three and striking out one in the loss.

First baseman Pete Alonso (Florida) led the Mallards offensively, going 2-for-4 with a double and a single.

The Stingers would add another run in the sixth, and reliever Tyler Cohen (Loyola Marymount) would then close down the Mallards in the seventh to end any hopes of a Madison comeback.

In game one of today's doubleheader, the Mallards scored four runs in the fifth inning, three coming off designated hitter Pete Alonso's (Florida) double to aid in the Mallards 8-2 victory.

Mallards starter A.J. Bogucki (North Carolina) tossed six innings, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out seven to receive the win.

Alonso hit a solo jack in the first inning, his 12th of the year and third in the past two days, to break open the scoring. He finished 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI. Shortstop Trace Tam Sing (Washington State) hit a three run homer, his second of the year, in the fifth to bring the Mallards tally to seven.

The Mallards added one run in the seventh to go up 8-2 before reliever Devin Over (Connecticut) closed out the Stingers in the bottom of the frame.

The Mallards travel to Kenosha tomorrow to begin a two game series against the Kenosha Kingfish at 6:05 pm. After the conclusion of the series, the Mallards are off for the Northwoods League All-Star Break until next Thursday, when they resume play in a home-and-home series against the Lakeshore Chinooks.

The Mallards play one in Mequon on Thursday at 6:35 pm and return to the "Duck Pond" on Friday for a 7:05 pm game.
