Eau Claire Express News Release

Waterloo, IA - The Eau Claire Express (1-0) took game 1 of the 2019 postseason over the Waterloo Bucks (0-1) in a 2-1 victory at Riverfront Stadium.

Lakeland University Postgame Recap:

The 4th inning saw all the game's scoring. The Express plated 2 runs in the top half of the frame. Cole Cabrera (Cal Poly) led off with a double and Zach Gilles (Central Michigan) followed with a single. David LaManna (Notre Dame) had the huge 2 RBI single to give the Express a 2-0 lead. Waterloo responded by scoring a run of their own in the bottom half, but could only manage the one run in the Express 2-1 victory.

After a lull in the action, Bucks made the game interesting in the bottom of the 9th inning. A leadoff double put the game tying run in scoring position. The runner attempted to come home on a base hit, but Express left fielder, Zach Gilles, gunned him down at home plate to record the final out of the ballgame.

Nick Alvarado (Illinois-Springfield) was fabulous in his start. The junior went 6.2 innings and earned the win after allowing just one run on four hits and one walk. Kuster Kinlecheenie (Montevallo) closed out the game and earned the save in 2.1 scoreless innings.

Playoff baseball will return to Carson Park on Tuesday, August 13th in Game 2 of a best-of-three series. The Express will take on the Bucks with a 6:35 pm first pitch.
