Round Rock Express News Release

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Martin Perez earned the victory in his first career Triple-A start, and Joey Butler provided a game-deciding home run as the Round Rock Express clipped the Memphis Redbirds in Saturday night's Pacific Coast League action at AutoZone Park. The Express (55-39) have won three of the series' first four games and hold a 6-5 edge in the season series against the Redbirds (49-45).

Perez (1-0) worked 5.0 innings and allowed one run on six hits - five of which were singles. He struck out four with no walks. Perez improved to 5-2 on the season overall after opening the year at Double-A Frisco. Pedro Strop worked a scoreless ninth with a walk and a strikeout for his seventh save.

Leonys Martin led the Express at the plate, going 3-for-4 and plating Round Rock's first run with a third-inning RBI single. Butler walked with one out in the fourth and later scoring on Matt Kata's RBI single. Memphis got a run back in the bottom of the fourth, but Butler's seventh home run - a solo shot in the sixth - gave the Express the cushion they needed for the win. Matt Carpenter hit a solo homer in the sixth, but the Redbirds managed only one hit the rest of the way.

Memphis starter Nick Additon (2-6) was saddled with the loss. He allowed all three runs on eight hits and a walk over 7.0 innings with three strikeouts.

All but one of this season's games between Round Rock and Memphis have been decided by three or fewer runs, including five one-run contests.

Round Rock and Memphis conclude the series Sunday with a 6:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at AutoZone Park. Right-hander Brett Tomko (5-3, 6.89 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Express opposite Redbirds right-hander Brandon Dickson (4-7, 4.04 ERA).
