Iowa Cubs News Release
Bryan LaHair crushed a go-ahead two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning, setting a new career-high with 27, to lead Iowa over Oklahoma City 5-2, Saturday night at Principal Park in front of 10,486 fans.
The RedHawks took an early 2-0 lead as I-Cubs' starting pitcher Casey Coleman got off to a rocky start. Luis Durango led off the game with a single and the number two hitter, Collin DeLome, followed Durango with an RBI-triple. Robinson Cancel then hit an RBI-groundout to second base that scored DeLome.
Iowa rallied for three runs in the bottom of the third and never looked back. Brett Jackson hit a one-out double and scored one batter later on an RBI-single from DJ LeMahieu. With two outs, Bryan LaHair blasted his 27th home run of the year that cleared the bleachers in right field and put Iowa ahead 3-2. LaHair's bomb put him tied for first place in all of minor league baseball and also surpassed his personal best he set with Triple-A Tacoma in 2009. He finished the night 1-for-2 with two RBI and two walks.
Ryan Flaherty added an RBI-double in the bottom of the eighth, plating Brad Snyder who tripled, and Brett Jackson contributed a run-scoring single to give Iowa two insurance runs. Jackson and Flaherty both finished their nights 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, run scored and RBI each.
I-Cubs' pitchers shut down the Oklahoma City offense the rest of the game. Coleman (3-2, 4.07) only got stronger as the game went on and retired 13 of the last 15 batters he faced, allowing only two singles in that span. He picked up his third win and fourth quality start of the season. Coleman pitched six innings, gave up two runs on six hits and struck out four.
Chris Carpenter and Scott Maine added three shutout innings for Iowa. Carpenter took over for Coleman in the seventh and pitched two innings and Scott Maine closed out the game in the ninth, earning his ninth save on the season.
Oklahoma City starter Sergio Perez (4-8, 4.21) received the loss. Perez surrendered three runs on six hits, walked three and fanned three.
The I-Cubs and RedHawks play the final game of this series Sunday afternoon at Principal Park. RH Lucas Harrell (0-0, 0.00) will get the start for Oklahoma City. Iowa's starter has yet to be determined. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m.
