OMAHA – The Omaha Royals, who defeated Round Rock in the Express' season opener at the Dell Diamond last week, were beaten 7-3 by the Express in their home opener Friday in front of 7,031 fans at Rosenblatt Stadium.

Round Rock's number nine batter, right fielder Barry Wesson, could be moving up in the Express lineup after going 2-for-3 with four RBI. Wesson's two-run double capped a three-run second inning as Round Rock lit up the scoreboard first. His two-run homer in the fourth inning was the last of five hits allowed by Royals starter Danny Tamayo(0-1), who gave up five runs in four frames to take the loss.

Omaha left fielder Matt Diaz hit a solo homer in the third inning, extending his hitting streak to six games, longest for a Royals batter this season. He also had a single and a stolen base.

Trailing 5-1, the Royals scored two runs in the fourth to chase Express starter Carlos Hernandez. Veteran right-hander Dave Burba (2-0) relieved with two outs and the bases loaded and induced Ken Harvey to hit a grounder to third for the inning-ending force play. Burba wound up tossing three-and-a-third scoreless innings to get the win.

Round Rock scored twice in the eighth to take a 7-3 lead. The Royals threatened in the bottom of the ninth, as Paul Phillips singled with one out and lefty Mike Gallo walked Harvey.

However, Mike Burns came on to strike out Luis Ugueto swinging and Chad Santos looking. Burns earned his third save of the season.

Game 2 of the series is Saturday at 6:05: RH Taylor Buchholz (0-0, 16.87) vs. RH Dennis Tankersley (0-0, 4.50). Gates open at 4:00 and the 1st 2,500 fans receive Omaha Royals Magnet Schedules, courtesy of Pizza Hut. Air-time is 5:45 p.m. on Fox Sports Radio 1490 and at www.Oroyals.com.
