April 16, 2005 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tucson Sidewinders News Release

The Tucson Sidewinders fell to the Salt Lake Stingers 6-4 in front of the largest attended home opener in Sidewinders history. The crowd of 11, 175 fans were in attendance as Salt Lake's Dallas McPherson broke a 4-4 8th inning tie with a two run triple off the base of the wall in deep left center field to give Salt Lake a 6-4 lead. That's where it stayed, as the Sidewinders could not put anything together in the last two innings. The win was credited to Dusty Bergman who threw four innings giving up only one run in relief of Salt Lake's starter Doug Sessions. The loss was charged to Jason Bulger who went an inning and two thirds giving up 2 runs on three hits, those two runs coming of McPherson's Triple.

The game was not without its bright spots for the Sidewinders as 3B Brian Barden went 3 for 4 with a homerun, his first of the year, and 2RBI's. Left Fielder Scott Hairston tied the game at four in the seventh inning with his second homerun of the year. Pitching wise LHP Mark Freed threw three scoreless innings with two strikeouts in relief of starter Phil Stockman.

The loss puts the Sidewinders at 3 and 6 on the young season and 1 and 4 against the Stingers. The series continues tomorrow night at Tucson Electric Park as the scheduled starters are LHP Darren Oliver for the Sidewinders and LHP Clayton Andrews for the Stingers. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with gates opening one hour prior to game time.
