Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA – As it turned out, Omaha infielder Rudy Gomez had the best night Saturday of any Royals pitcher. Gomez pitched two scoreless innings of mop-up relief in the Royals 14-9 loss to Round Rock in front of 2,365 fans at Rosenblatt Stadium.

The Express, which scored only ten runs while losing three of four games to the Royals in Round Rock last week, unleashed a 20-hit attack.

Royals starter Dennis Tankersley (0-1) gave up six runs on eight hits, including three home runs, to take the loss. Mike Coolbaugh hit a two-run homer in the first. Carlos Rivera hit a two-run homer just inside the left field foul pole in the third and, one batter later, Humberto Quintero hit a solo shot to make it 6-0.

Omaha responded with a five-run rally in the bottom of the third. Matt Diaz, who had extended his hitting streak to seven games with a first inning single, smacked a two-run double to begin the third stanza scoring. Chad Santos capped it with a two-run double and would add a two-run single in the ninth to finish with four RBI in a 3-for-5 night.

By the time the Royals scored those last at-bat runs off former Omaha right-hander Chris Fussell, the game was already decided. Round Rock broke open a tight contest with four runs in the sixth to spoil Justin Huisman's 26th birthday. The Express tacked on four more in the seventh off Shawn Sonnier.

Travis Driskill (1-0) won his first decision for Round Rock, firing five scoreless innings of relief. Coolbaugh wound up scoring four runs and driving in three, while Rivera and Quintero also had three RBI for the Express. Danny Klassen had three hits and scored three runs.

Game 3 of the series is Sunday at 1:35: RH Ezequiel Astacio (0-1, 3.55) vs. LH Jimmy Gobble (1-1, 10.38). The 1st 1,500 fans get "Casey for Mayor" buttons and kids 17-and-under can vote for Casey, Fahey or Friend. Plus, it's a family fun day...kids can enjoy the fun zone and are invited to run the bases! Air-time is 1:15 on Fox Sports Radio 1490 and at www.Oroyals.com.
