Sioux City Explorers News Release
Wichita, KS.....The Sioux City Explorers snapped an eight-game losing streak Wednesday as they defeated Wichita 6-1.
Pitcher, turned DH, Tyler Meigs led the Explorers with three hits, including two doubles and drove in three runs to lead the X's to their first victory of the season over the Wingnuts. Meigs was the losing pitcher last night, but Wednesday was in the lineup as the designated hitter and drove in half of the Explorers runs.
Trevor Fox was the starter and winning pitcher with David Trahan pitching two and two thirds in relief striking out five for the second straight night.
Nick McCoola gave the Explorers a 1-0 lead in the third inning with a RBI single. Sioux City scored two more runs in the fourth on a RBI triple by Justin Nelson and a RBI single by Alex Llanos to give the Explorers a 3-0 lead.
Three Explorers pitchers limited the American Association leading hitting team to just one run on seven hits as the Wingnuts had their nine-game winning streak stopped.
The final game of the three-game series will be played Thursday at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium at 7:05. The Explorers will return home Friday to finish the final three games of the first half against St. Paul.
