Pensacola, FL - The Sioux Falls Canaries (20-24) matched a season high with 18 hits, and scored 11 runs off those hits for a 11-5 victory over the Pensacola Pelicans (19-25) on Wednesday night at Jim Spooner Field. Jared Lemieux led the Canaries going 4-for-4 with two walks and a home run.

For the second straight game, the Canaries got ahead by scoring in the first inning. Lemieux led off the game with a single. An errant pick-off throw by Pelicans starting pitcher Clegg Snipes allowed Lemieux to advance around to third base. Lemieux then scored when Tim Hutting reached on a two-base throwing error by Pelicans third baseman Lester Contreras. Hutting advanced to third on a groundout by Joe Anthonsen and then scored on a wild pitch. After a half inning, the Canaries led 2-0.

Pensacola got a run back in the bottom of the first. Luis Guance reached on a lead-off walk and advanced to third on an errant pick-off throw by Canaries starting pitcher Ryan Ford. Guance scored on a groundout by Antoin Gray, and cut the Canaries lead in half, 2-1.

The Canaries added two runs in the second and one in the third to pull ahead, 5-1. In the second, J.D. Reininger and Kyle Eveland reached on back-to-back singles and both scored on a single by Lemieux to give the Canaries a 4-1 advantage. The Birds fifth run came in the third when Cory Harris singled and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Patrick Reilly.

Pensacola chopped into the Canaries lead with two fifth inning runs. Francisco Leandro and Guance came up with back-to-back one-out singles to put two on for Gray. Gray singled to score Leandro and make it a 5-2 game. After Guance stole third base, Chase Burch hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Guance and make it a two-run game, 5-3.

The Canaries pulled away with five runs in the top of the sixth inning. The scoring started when Ken Lup singled to score Kyle Eveland from second base for a 6-3 lead. The bases were loaded on a single by Lemieux and an intentional walk to Tim Hutting. Joe Anthonsen and Cory Harris provided back-to-back RBI singles to drive in Lup and Lemiux for an 8-3 lead. Hutting scored as Lawhorn reached on a fielder's choice, and Anthonsen scored the inning's final run on a double by Joe Dempsey. The big inning put the Canaries ahead by seven, 10-3

The Pelicans got a couple runs in the late innings, but the Canaries finished the scoring with Jared Lemieux's first home run of the season in the ninth inning. Lemieux's solo shot sealed the 11-5 win.

Ryan Ford (2-5) picked up his second win in as many starts, allowing four runs, two earned on eight hits in 6.2 innings. Clegg Snipes (1-5) gave up nine runs in suffering the loss for Pensacola.

The Canaries and Pelicans will wrap-up the three-game series on Thursday night at 6:35 p.m. The Birds return to Sioux Falls for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Fort Worth Cats on July 7. The game, which will mark the beginning of the second half, will feature a "Fly Away Giveaway" presented by Allegiant Air.
