Explorers Gets The Victory On Kiss Night

Sioux City, IA- The Sioux City Explorers sent the crowds home happy on KISS night, getting the 7-5 victory over the Texas AirHogs at Mercy Field at Lewis and Clark Park.

Explorers jumped to a quick 3-0 lead, recording runs in the first and second innings. In the first, Jarek Cunningham's (6-3) groundout scored the runner at third for the first run. Matt Koch knocked in a run with an RBI double, and later scored on a Derrick Robinson base-hit in the second inning.

Sioux City chalked up two more runs in the third inning. With runners at second and third, (relief pitcher) X's first baseman Jacob Kubler doubled to score the two runners and extend their lead to 5-0.

In the fourth, Texas added their first runs. Austin Gallgher plated two runs with an RBI double, cutting the lead to 5-2.

The Explorers answered with two runs of their own in the bottom half. With the bases loaded, X's catcher Ralph Henriquez singled to score the runners at second and third base.

Texas chalked up a couple more runs in the fifth. Juan Sanchez hit a solo-homer for the first run of the inning. The second run crossed on an RBI single by Leon Byrd, shortening the deficit by three runs.

In the top of the ninth, X's closer Connor Overton allowed a run to score, but sealed the victory and got the save for Sioux City, helping them earn the 7-5 victory over Texas.

Explorers starter Bryan Escanio (3-2) received the Victory for Sioux City, allowing four runs in five innings and two strikeouts.

AirHogs right-hander Matt Shepherd (2-4) was charged with the loss, giving up seven runs in four innings.
