Wichita Wingnuts News Release
WICHITA, Kans. - The Wichita Wingnuts put together four straight out one-out singles in the bottom of the ninth to turn a 3-2 deficit into a 4-3 walk-off victory over the Sioux Falls Canaries Friday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
After Madison Boer (0-4) retired the first batter of the inning, Matt Chavez, Martin Medina, and Richard Prigatano all singled to load the bases for Brennen Salgado. Salgado made it four straight singles, bringing home pinch-runner Brent Dean and Medina to give the Wingnuts (34-19) their fourth walk-off victory of the year.
Sioux Falls (17-35) grabbed the lead early on, plating a run in the opening inning on three singles, the last of which came off the bat of Michael Pair to make it 1-0. The visitors then doubled their lead in the fourth, with Ozney Guillen picking up an RBI.
Wichita got on the board for the first time in the home half of the frame on a sacrifice fly by Medina, but the Canaries once again pushed the lead to two on a solo homer by Jake Taylor in the sixth.
The Wingnuts once again closed the gap to one in the seventh, as Harrison Kain tripled Prigatano home to make it 3-2. Kain was injured on the play, and had to be removed, bringing Salgado into the game. After a fly out, he was thrown out trying to score from third, just missing out on an opportunity to tie it.
Tim Brown allowed three runs in a season-high tying eight innings for Wichita, earning his sixth quality start, but also a no-decision. Seth Harvey (2-0) was the lone other pitcher used by the Wingnuts on the night, and the righty retired Sioux Falls in order in the top of the ninth to keep the deficit at one.
The Wingnuts and Canaries continue their series Saturday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. Right-hander Alex Boshers (5-2, 5.07) will be on the mound for Wichita, while Sioux Falls has yet to announce Friday's starter. First pitch is set for 7:05, and the game can be heard on 1410 AM KGSO, as well as on TuneIn.
