Sioux City Explorers News Release
Sioux City.....The Sioux City Explorers moved back into first place in the American Association North with a 4-3 win over Lincoln Wednesday.
The victory by the Explorers and a loss by St. Paul at Fort Worth put the X's one-half game ahead of the Saints.
Trailing 3-2 in the seventh inning, the Explorers scored twice to take the lead. Dustin Jones singled to right field to score Derek Schmerhorn from third base. Jones moved to second on a hit by Nick McCoola and then Jones stole third base. Alex Llanos lifted a fly ball to right field that scored Jones with what proved to be the winning run.
The Explorers had taken a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run double by Jason Colson. However, Lincoln tied the game in the third on a two-run home run by Phil Hawke. Hawke then drove in the go-ahead run for Lincoln in the third inning to give the Saltdogs a 3-2 lead.
