Fort Worth Cats News Release

Jae Jung allowed just one earned run in seven innings pitched as the Cats defeated St. Paul 6-4 on Wednesday night at LaGrave Field.

Jung retired the first 11 batters he faced in the game and the Cats got him run support early on.

The Cats scored three times in the first inning on RBI singles by Michael Bell and Ryan Patterson and an RBI ground out by Pat O'Sullivan. It was O'Sullivan's team-leading 47th run batted in this season.

Fort Worth added three more runs in the bottom of the second as Brian Fryer drove in a run with an RBI single and then Cameron Blair smacked his first home run of the season over the wall in left to give the Cats a 6-0 advantage.

St. Paul scored two unearned runs in the sixth inning as the leadoff man Scott Knazek reached on an error and later came in to score on a two-run single by Josh Alley.

The Saints cut the lead to 6-3 in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Anthony Norman, bringing home Knazek who had led off the inning with a single.

In the ninth, Cats' closer Gary Lee came on and retired the first batter before allowing a hit, a walk and an RBI single by Andrew Schmiessing. Lee then struck out Knazek and got Steve Butler to bounce to second to end the game. It was Lee's fourth save of the season.

Jung (4-1) notched the win, allowing three runs, one earned on four hits in seven innings of work. St. Paul starter Mitch Wylie suffered his fifth loss of the season as he permitted six runs on eight hits in four innings of work.

Bell was 3-for-4 in the game with an RBI. The Cats also had multi-hit games from Isa Garcia and Chuck Carter.

The series concludes on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. Ryan Trytten pitches for the Cats and Brandon Kintzler goes for St. Paul.
