
Explorers Boot Rubber Game

Sioux City, Iowa - The Sioux City Explorers committed a season high five errors and allowed a season high sixteen hits as they dropped the rubber game to the Sioux Falls Canaries 12-3.
The Explorers took the first lead of the game scoring in the first for the third time in the series. Danny Amaral hit a solo shot to give the X's a 1-0 lead.
The Canaries struck back in the second with four runs of their own. Two straight singles by the Canaries started off the rally before John Nester reached on an error that scored Kona Quiggle. Nick Gotta singled home Zane Gurwitz. Jabari Henry reached on the second error of the frame that scored Nick Gotta and Nester. Allowing Sioux Falls to take a 4-1 lead.
The Explorers answered back in the bottom of the inning. Trey Martin led off with a double and Gabe Snyder singled him home to cut the deficit to 4-2.
In the fifth and sixth the Canaries added six more runs to their lead. In the fifth a single and a walk to lead off the frame set up Trey Michalczewski and Kona Quiggle for RBI singles giving the Birds a 7-2 lead.
In the sixth Jabari Henry collected an RBI single and a two out two run single by Quiggle pushed the Sioux Falls advantage to 10-2.
Zach Hedges (0-3) threw five innings in the ball game for the X's. Hedges gave up seven runs, four earned, on nine hits, two walks and three strikeouts.
Ty Culbreth (5-3) went seven strong innings giving up only the two early runs on five hits. The lefty had two walks and two strikeouts.
The X's didn't score again until the eighth. Danny Amaral reached on an error and came around to score from second on a stolen base and a wild pitch.
Sioux Falls added another two runs in the ninth inning to give the game its final score of 12-3.
The five Sioux City errors in the game were the most committed by an Explorers team since July 7, 2018 when Sioux City committed six in a loss to the Wichita Wingnuts.
The Explorers begin a four game series versus the Winnipeg Goldeyes at 7:05 pm on Friday. The X's will send righty Kevin McCanna (5-2, 4.95) to the mound. The Goldeyes will throw right hander Alex Manasa.
