Sioux City Explorers News Release

Sioux City, Iowa - Sioux City Explorers opened up the four game series against the Winnipeg Goldeyes in exciting fashion with a walk off three-run home run in the eleventh winning 5-3.

Sioux City was the first team to get a run on the board for the fifth consecutive game. A fielder's choice brought home Blake Tiberi, who reached on a single to right field to lead off the inning.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes tied the game up in the top of the third on a Logan Hill solo home run.

The Explorer's took back the lead in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI groundout from Nate Samson. The groundout brought in Trey Martin, who reached on a three base error as the X's went ahead 2-1.

From there both starting pitchers got into a groove. Explorers starter Kevin McCanna started this game and took the no decision. He threw six and two-thirds innings, collecting four strikeouts, and allowing five hits, two runs, and two walks.

Alex Manasa, the Winnipeg starter, also took a no decision in tonight's game. He threw six innings, and had three strikeouts, and allowed seven hits, one earned run, and two walks.

The Goldeyes tied up the game for a second time in the seventh on Raul Navarro's single to right field, scoring Max Murphy.

The score remained tied at 2-2 until the eleventh inning, where the Goldeyes took a 3-2 lead. Winnipeg's Ian Sagdal singled to center to bring home Reggie Pruitt Jr.

In the bottom of the eleventh, trailing by one, Danny Amaral hit a three-run home run to walk it off.

It is the first walk-off home run for the Sioux City Explorers since John Nogowski on June 2nd, 2017 against the Gary SouthShore RailCats.

Thomas McIlraith (W, 3-1) picked up the win with two innings of relief. Tasker Strobel (L, 1-2) came in the eleventh and took the loss.

Sioux City and Winnipeg meet again tomorrow at 6:05. Tyler Beardsley (2-2, 5.05) will start on the bump for the X's. He will be opposed by right handed pitcher Landen Bourassa (1-1, 2.14).
