Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League have officially counted 11,096 stuffed animals collected from their Teddy Bear Toss night on Saturday, Dec. 4.
The bears will be donated to Christmas House, a non-profit for under-privileged families in Snohomish County, as well as to Everett Fire Department and Volunteers of America.
Matthew Ng made quick work of the Everett Silvertips' Teddy Bear Toss, netting his fifth goal of the season just one minute and fifty-four seconds against the Vancouver Giants and ushering in a cascade of stuffed animals raining down onto the Angel of the Winds Arena ice. Nearly 6,000 fans were in attendance at the game.
In addition to the stuffed animal collection, the Silvertips raised $1,575 for the Ace Foundation, benefiting local hospitals including Seattle Children's.
Ng's goal is the first Teddy Bear Toss goal scored by the Silvertips sine Dec. 14, 2019 when Bryce Kindopp scored at 1:52 in the first period. Everett native Hunter Campbell and Michal Gut assisted on Ng's tally.
The Silvertips would like to thank their friends at dwell Mortgage and Ace Hardware - Lake Stevens, Evergreen Way & Stanwood for their assistance and support of Teddy Bear Toss Night.
Everett is now 18-3-2 on the season, sitting atop the WHL's Western Conference with 38 points.
They host the Kelowna Rockets on Wednesday, Dec. 8 for the first time this season before heading to Tri-City for a weekend set with the Americans.
The Silvertips boast three NHL Draft picks on their current roster in Niko Huuhtanen (7th-round, Tampa Bay Lightning '21), Ronan Seeley (7th-round, Carolina Hurricanes '20) and Olen Zellweger (2nd-round, Anaheim Ducks '21). Seeley and Zellweger will be departing for Calgary on Thursday, Dec. 9 to attend Hockey Canada's Selection Camp ahead of the 2022 World Junior Championship. Silvertips head coach and general manager Dennis Williams will serve as an assistant coach for Hockey Canada.
