Everett Silvertips News Release
Everett, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips lost to the Chilliwack Bruins 2-1 in a shootout on Wednesday night, November 14th, inside of Comcast Arena at the Everett Events Center. The loss - Everett's fourth straight - comes in the team's first shootout of the season. The 4,693 fans on hand witnessed just the second regular season overtime game in which the Silvertips have participated over the span of their last 34 contests. Their record hangs just above the .500 plateau at 11-10-0-1 (23 pts.) keeping them third place in the U.S. Division.
Events of the game transpired slowly through the first two periods. The biggest event during that time frame was a first period fight between Everett rookie Eric English and Chilliwack defenseman Matt McCue. Neither team was able to convert on the few prime scoring chances to be had and both finished the first 40-minutes zero-for-three on the power play.
Early in the final period is when the scoring finally began. The Silvertips got on the board first at the 4:22 mark. Amidst a loose puck situation in the Chilliwack zone on a partial Everett rush, Shane Harper battled the Bruins defense and the puck ultimately was spun toward the boards. Meanwhile, Kyle Beach was skating up the right wing and was first to the puck. From below the right circle - at a very limited angle - he threw a shot on net that managed to squeak its way behind Bruins goaltender Matt Esposito.
For Beach, the point improves his current hot streak to an accumulation of 33 points coming in 19 of Everett's 22 games. All the excitement came to a halt, however, when Silvertips goaltender Leland Irving's shutout bid was ended late in the period. An Oscar Moller backhander at 16:43 created the need for the extra periods.
In the five minute, four-on-four overtime the Silvertips out shot the Bruins 3-2 but never could score the game winner. Zach Hamill extended the shootout by converting on a must score situation following a series of dekes before putting the puck over Esposito's left pad. Unfortunately for the Silvertips, Nick Holden was the next shooter for the Bruins and he was able to score.
The Silvertips will remain at Comcast Arena at the Everett Events Center for their next two games when they take on the Kelowna Rockets this Friday night at 7:35 p.m. and this Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Vancouver Giants. Everett then rounds out the weekend with a Sunday night game in Chilliwack against the Bruins. Game time has been altered for that contest with the start now being scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
