Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

Edmonton, AB - Dig up your loose change and bring it to every Edmonton Oil Kings Sunday home game. The hockey club is bringing back on old tradition and putting a twist on it to benefit charity.

For the rest of the season, the Oil Kings will be taking a silver collection when fans attend Sunday home games at Rexall Place. All proceeds from the coins collected will be donated to the Edmonton's School Lunch Program.

"I remember when kids would love coming to our Sunday games at the old Edmonton Gardens." said Oil Kings' alumni Al Hamilton. "Back in those days, we had to operate with those donations at the door. Now it's nice that the club has found a way to put that money to good use."

Members of the current edition of the Edmonton Oil Kings were on hand today at Eastwood Elementary school serving up some hot lunches to the students.

"We are very excited to be a part of this joint venture with the Oil Kings, who have decided to revive a timeless tradition." said Edmonton's School Lunch Program Manager Manisha Patel. "1 in 6 families in Edmonton live in poverty and many of the children from these families come to school hungry. Edmonton's School Lunch Program has been providing a hot, nutritious lunch to 2300 children in 12 high-needs Public and Catholic schools for the over 14 years. With the support of the Oil Kings we will continue to provide these much needed services."

The remainder of the Oil Kings schedule features 7 Sunday home games starting this weekend against the Seattle Thunderbirds. For tickets, please call 409-3700 or visit oilkings.ca.
