Everett Silvertips News Release
Chilliwack, B.C.- Thomas Heemskerk stopped 30 of 31 shots to lead the Everett Silvertips to a 3 to 1 victory over the Chilliwack Bruins Sunday evening at Prospera Centre. With the victory Everett recorded points in four of five games this past week. Heemskerk, a Chilliwack native, now improves his record to 12-13-3-3. WHL league leading rookie scorer Kellan Tochkin added his 16th goal of the year to improve his point total to 59. Shane Harper, along with Tochkin, scored in his second straight game giving Everett the game winning goal Sunday night. Graham Potuer added his seventh goal of the season. Mike Alexander, Dan Iwanski and Zack Dailey had an assist each Sunday night.
This brings the 'Tips record to 23-24-7-2 with 55 points in 56 games played taking them to sixth place in the Western Conference. Everett stands two points behind fifth place Kamloops Blazers and 12 points behind fourth place Kelowna Rockets. The Silvertips are now 2-5-2-1 in their last 10 games. The Silvertips have two days rest before heading back to Comcast Arena Wednesday night for a match-up against the Spokane Chiefs at 7:05.
Everett opened up the scoring in the second period. During a 2 on 1 Tochkin had Taylor Ellington streaking down the left wing. Tochkin elected to shoot and beat Mark Friesen on his glove hand with a quick release. Friesen got a piece of the puck but not enough as it beat him for Tochkin's 16th goal of the season at 12:37. The Silvertips made it a 2-0 lead two minutes and 41 seconds later when Iwanski skated the puck back behind the Chilliwack net and offered a feed through the slot to Harper who one-timed it between Friesen's legs to make it 2-0 at 15:18. The Silvertips did a good job controlling play in the second period outshooting the Bruins 13-9.
Chilliwack narrowed Everett's lead to one on a Brandon Manning power play goal that beat Heemskerk down low at 4:30 of the third period. Potuer put away the game at 18:29 when he cleared the puck after a Dailey face-off in his own zone to find an empty net and secure a 3-1 Everett victory.
The Silvertips come back to Comcast Arena this Wednesday, February 11th to take on U.S. Division rival Spokane Chiefs at 7:05!
