Florida Everblades News Release
CHARLESTON, SC - The Florida Everblades got their first win in 2010 against South Carolina with a gritty 4-2 victory. The Everblades were paced by two goals from Mathieu Roy and a goal and an assist from captain Ross Carlson and Dominic Osman. The Everblades improved to 2-3-1 with the victory this season against the Stingrays.
The Florida Everblades came out flying in the first stanza out shooting the South Carolina Stingrays 13-5. Just two minutes into the game, the Everblades notched their first power-play goal of the game as Mathieu Roy (10) deflected an AJ Thelen point shot by Parker Van Buskirk and into the back of the Stingray cage. Matt Duffy also figured into the scoring with his sixth assist of the season. The first period ended with a 1-0 Everblade advantage.
The second period was a reversal of fortune for the Everblades. The Stingrays dominated the Everblades in period two, firing 19 shots to the âBlades six in the period. South Carolina enjoyed five power-play chances while the Everblades had none. Just 50-seconds into the period Dylan Yeo scored a power-play goal from the left point to even the contest at 1-1. Trent Campbell and Gregg Johnson recorded assists on the goal. The Everblades would answer with the first even-strength tally of the game at the 9:23 mark of the game. Mathieu Roy (11) recorded his second goal of the game off a great play by Kevin Baker as the Everblades broke into the Stingray zone three on one. Roy beat Van Buskirk over the glove to give Florida a 2-1 lead. The Everblades would take that one-goal edge to the locker room after 40-minutes of play.
The Everblades took the first two-goal advantage of the weekend just 33-seconds into the third period as Dominic Osman beat goaltender Shane Connelly over the shoulder for a 3-1 Everblade lead. The goal was the first for Osman in an Everblade sweater. Ross Carlson would strike four minutes later to give Florida a 4-1 lead. South Carolina added a tally late to finish the scoring.
The Everblades finish off their mini three-game road trip on Sunday afternoon in The Arena at the Gwinnett Center on Sunday afternoon. The Gladiators and Everblades will meet for the ninth time this season and fifth time this year in Gwinnett. The âBlades have posted a 4-1-2 mark against the Gladiators this season..
