ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades (36-25-6) defeated the Louisiana Ice Gators (52-12-4) 4-2 in front of 6,934 at TECO Arena on Friday night. Florida remained in fourth place in the Southeast Division with the win. Everblades forward Joe Blaznek had the game winning goal and an assist to lift Florida.

In the first period, the Everblades got on the board first on a power play goal off the stick of forward Brett Lysak at the 4:07 mark of the period. Forward Paul Spadafora and defenseman Briane Thompson drew the assists on Lysak's 2nd goal of the 2001-02 campaign. The Ice Gators then came back and tied the game at 1-1 after forward Shawn McNeil beat Everblades goaltender Sean Matile on the stick side at the 6:49 mark. Louisiana then grabbed a 2-1 lead after center Russ Hewson fired a shot into the back of the net at the 12:11 mark of the first period. The Everblades struck back and knotted the game at 2-2 when recently assigned defenseman Paul Elliot one timed the puck past Ice Gators netminder Marc Magliarditi. Keith Anderson and Duane Harmer picked up the helpers on Elliot's first tally of the season.

In the second period the Everblades took the lead 3-2 on a breakaway goal by forward Joe Blaznek. Forwards Tom Buckley and defenseman Duane Harmer registered the assists on Blaznek's 18th goal of the year.

In the third period, the Everblades held the Ice Gators scoreless and added an empty net goal by forward Brent McDonald to seal the 4-2 win. Florida goaltender Sean Matile (3-1-0) stopped 26 of 28 shots he faced while Ice Gators netminder Marc Magliarditi (26-7-1) stopped 24 of 27 shots. The Everblades were 1 for 3 on the power play while the Ice Gators were 0 for 1.

Florida plays game two of their two game series against the Ice Gators on Saturday night at TECO Arena. It's Fan Appreciation Night. The puck drops at 7:30 PM.
