Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

Billed as one of the best pitcher's duels in the Pacific Coast League all season, Albuquerque Isotopes (56-50) starter Dana Eveland out-dueled his counterpart, Omaha Storm Chasers (56-49) righty Luis Mendoza in a 2-0 Isotopes win Thursday night at Werner Park. Eveland twirled a three-hit, complete-game shutout masterpiece to earn his fourth straight victory and his PCL-leading 11th win of the season.

Eveland (11-5) was in control throughout the game, allowing just three singles, none of which left the infield, while walking one and striking out six. The left-hander allowed just four balls to leave the infield all night while tossing 115 pitches, 76 for strikes. Eveland twice retired eight Storm Chasers in a row, and allowed just one runner to reach as far as third base.

Mendoza matched Eveland zero-for-zero until the top of the fifth, when the Isotopes finally broke through thanks to a costly Chasers error. After Jamie Hoffmann drew a lead-off walk, A.J. Ellis hit a chopper to shortstop Irving Falu, whose throw to second was low and skittered into right field, allowing the ‚¬ËœTopes to put runners on the corners with no outs. Justin Sellers roped a groundout to Falu, sending Hoffmann home with the game's first run while Ellis scampered into scoring position. A groundout moved Ellis to third, where he was cashed in by a two-out double by Ivan De Jesus Jr., giving Albuquerque a 2-0 lead.

Two runs proved to be plenty of cushion for Eveland, who faced his only real threat of the night in the bottom of the eighth. Jarrod Dyson was hit by a pitch with one out, promptly stole second, and scampered into third on a wild pitch, putting Omaha's first run within just 90 feet of coming home. Eveland got David Lough to groundout meekly to first, however, ending the threat and sending Eveland to the 2-0 win.

Eveland's is the second nine-inning complete-game tossed by an Isotopes pitcher this season and the first nine-inning complete-game shutout since Bobby Keppel threw one at Round Rock on September 1, 2008.

Mendoza (7-4) suffered a hard-luck loss for Omaha, allowing the two runs, both of them unearned, on just four hits in 6.1 innings while walking four and striking out six.

The ‚¬ËœTopes will wrap up their series in Omaha on Friday night with right-hander Mike Parisi (1-0, 9.00) taking the hill for the Isotopes against Chasers righty Sean O'Sullivan (2-2, 4.31) in a 6:05 PM MT start from Werner Park.

Albuquerque will return to Isotopes Park next Wednesday to start another eight-game homestand against the Tacoma Rainiers and Salt Lake Bees which includes a slew of great giveaways like Orbit Banks and Isotopes Hats as well as a fireworks extravaganza. Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or on-line at www.albuquerquebaseball.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
