Padres' Struggles Continue

The Tucson Padres lost their third consecutive game Wednesday, falling to the Colorado Springs Sky Sox, 9-5. Like last night, the Padres inched close to Colorado Springs on the scoreboard multiple times but the Sky Sox scored once in the seventh and twice in the eighth to pull away. Sky Sox reliever Edgmer Escalona retired all six batters he saw to close the game and struck out four of them.

The Sky Sox hit three home runs amounting to four runs between the third and fourth innings. The Padres cut their lead to one when Anthony Rizzo hit a deep home run to center field in the bottom of the fourth with two teammates on base. Rizzo was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and now has home runs in three consecutive games. Steve Tolleson was 3-for-3 with an RBI for the Padres.

Tucson starter Jon Leicester lasted six innings and allowed six runs on nine hits. The Padres are now 49-55, in third place, 12.5 games behind first place Sacramento.
