Iowa Cubs News Release

Des Moines, IA - After nearly two full weeks without a roster move, the Iowa Cubs made more player changes today. Earlier today, the Chicago Cubs announced that they had traded Kosuke Fukudome to the Cleveland Indians and recalled Tyler Colvin from Iowa. Iowa also lost C Welington Castillo to the disabled list with a right hamstring strain. C Steve Clevenger returns to the I-Cubs from double-A Tennessee to take his place.

Colvin batted .256 with seven home runs, 35 RBI, and a team-high six triples in 50 games over two stints with Iowa this season. This will be his third stint with Chicago after starting the season in the big leagues.

Castillo left Monday night's game in the fourth inning at Nashville after straining his hamstring while chasing a wild pitch on strike three to a batter. In 53 games with Iowa, Castillo is batting .315 with 15 home runs and 35 RBI. He has set a new career-high with 16 home runs, including one with high-A Daytona where he started the season recovering from a finger injury. Castillo was selected to the PCL All-Star team and played in the Triple-A All-Star Game on July 13 at Salt Lake.

Clevenger returns for his second stint with Iowa this year. He will join the team and be available tonight in New Orleans. Clevenger hit .412 with three home runs and eight RBI in 14 games for the I-Cubs from May 12-29 while Castillo was in Chicago. In 74 games with the Smokies this season, he is batting .278 with four home runs and 29 RBI. He was named a Southern League All-Star at mid-season. He has received that honor in each of the last two seasons.

RHP Carlton Smith is one of the two players that Chicago acquired from Cleveland today. He has been with Triple-A Columbus in the International League all season and has compiled a 2-3 record, two saves, and a 4.50 ERA over 34 relief appearances this season. The Indians drafted Smith in the 21st round of the 2004 draft out of Northwest Florida State College (formerly Okaloosa-Walton College). Smith will join the Cubs on Saturday in Memphis.

The I-Cubs continue their series in New Orleans tonight at 7:00. Tonight's game will be broadcast live on AM 940 with the Safeco On-Deck Circle Pre-Game Show starting at 6:40.
