Round Rock Express Win Wild One Over Memphis 9-8 in 11 Innings

ROUND ROCK, Texas - Esteban German singled, stole second, stole third and scored on a wild pitch all with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning as the Round Rock Express defeated the Memphis Redbirds 9-8 in Pacific Coast League action Thursday night at The Dell Diamond. The Express (62-44) lead the series two games to one and clinched the season series with their ninth win in 15 games against the Redbirds (52-53).

German's 11th-inning heroics capped a wild late-inning game for the Express, who trailed 7-4 entering the bottom of the eighth. Round Rock scored two unearned runs in the eighth, but Memphis responded with Tyler Greene's leadoff homer in the top of the ninth. The Express again rallied with two unearned runs in the bottom of the ninth, sending the game to extra innings. Joey Butler's two-out RBI single scored the tying run.

Cody Eppley (4-3) entered the game with a runner at second and one out in the top of the 11th and struck out the next two batters. He was credited with the win. Starter Brett Tomko allowed six runs - five earned - over 6.0 innings on nine hits and two walks with seven strikeouts, a season high.

Jess Todd (0-2) was saddled with the loss; he worked 1.2 innings and allowed one run on two hits and an intentional walk with two strikeouts. Starter Brandon Dickson surrendered four runs on six hits and two walks over 5.0 innings; he struck out five.

Memphis plated three runs on two hits and an Express error in the top of the third. After Brad Nelson's leadoff homer in the bottom of the second, the Redbirds pushed their lead to 5-1 with solo spots in the third and fourth innings.

Round Rock pulled to within a run thanks to a three-run fifth. Val Majewski led off with his second home run in as many games; Andres Blanco added an RBI double, and German plated a run on a groundout.

The Redbirds answered with Shane Robinson's two-out RBI double in the sixth and Bryan Anderson's one-out solo homer in the eighth.

Majewski was 3-for-5 with two RBI; he is 6-for-13 with two homers, and seven RBI in his first three games with the Express. Butler was 2-for-5, while Nelson had two RBI. German scored twice.

Greene was 3-for-5 with a walk. Matt Carpenter and Adron Chambers added two hits apiece.

Round Rock and Memphis conclude their four-game series Friday with a 7:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at The Dell Diamond. Right-hander Eric Hurley (5-0, 3.94 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Express, while right-hander Adam Ottavino (3-7, 4.22 ERA) is listed a the Redbirds' starter.
