Evansville Otters News Release

(EVANSVILLE, Indiana) endash Pitcher Dan Blewett threw a no-hitter for 7 1/3 innings as the Evansville Otters withstood a late Southern Illinois rally in a historic 5-4 victory.

The win marks the 700th victory for the Evansville Otters, the most in the 20-year history of the Frontier League.

Evansville scored two runs in the first inning and another three runs in the third to take the early lead.

Staked to a five run advantage, starting pitcher Dan Blewett took a no-hit bid into the late innings. After walking the leadoff hitter of the game, the right-hander retired the next 14 straight batters.

Still ahead 5-0 in the 8th, Dan Blewett struck out the leadoff hitter Sean Harrell and then faced the pinch-hitting Jason Ganek. The infielder hit the ball to the shortstop Jon Karcich who threw the ball away to first. Following the error, pinch hitter Sean Wilson hit a clean single through the right-side of the infield for the first Southern Illinois hit of the afternoon.

Blewett would battle back to get the next two hitters out and leave with a one-hit, eight-inning performance.

The game was not over though, as Southern Illinois trailed 5-1 in the top of the ninth inning and staged a three run rally. Closer Eric Massingham got in to the jam and struck out Wilson with the tying run at third.

The out secured the 700th win for Evansville and also earned a series victory for the Otters over the Southern Illinois Miners.

Blewett improves to 1-0 with the win, allowing an unearned run, one total hit, and recording eight strikeouts. Righty David Harden receives the lose after giving up five runs over five innings.

Evansville finishes the opening homestand 3-3 and will go on the road beginning on Friday for a season-long nine game roadtrip.
