FLORENCE, Ky. - Chris Curley and David Harris each hit first-inning home runs on Wednesday as the Florence Freedom beat the Rockford RiverHawks, 12-4.

Curley's two-run homer, his third of the year, and Harris' first of the season gave Florence an early 3-0 lead, and it led the rest of the way.

The RiverHawks cut what became a six-run deficit in half with two unearned runs in the sixth inning and a two-out RBI single by Javier Herrera in the seventh inning that made the score 7-4. In the bottom of the inning, the Freedom sent 10 to the plate and scored five runs on two hits, four walks, a hit batsman and a wild pitch.

Florence starter Sean Gregory (1-0) scattered a run on six hits, struck out six and walked one over five innings for the win. Rockford starter Scott Kelley (0-1) gave up six runs on five hits and three walks and did not get past the third inning.

Rockford has lost three in a row. Florence has won three straight since an 0-2 start. The Freedom have a chance to sweep the three-game series at 6:05 p.m. CDT Thursday. The game is scheduled to be aired live on WNTA-FM (100.5).

The RiverHawks' home opener is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Friday against Lake Erie. The Power Connection sponsors a postgame fireworks extravaganza.
