Evansville Otters Game Three Preview vs. Grizzlies
June 4, 2015 - Frontier League (FL)
Evansville Otters News Release
Evansville, IN- The Evansville Otters (12-5) bounced back to sweep the Gateway Grizzlies (4-14) in a doubleheader last night at Bosse Field winning Game One 5-4 and Game Two 5-1, moving into a tie of first place with the Southern Illinois Miners (12-5).
The first two innings of Game One saw an Otters team very similar to the one that got swept on Sunday, with a couple of errors accounting for three unearned Grizzlies' runs in the second and three straight hits in the third giving the Grizzlies a 4-0 lead. However, the Grizzlies defense put the momentum back on the Otters side with an error in the third allowing a run to come home before the reigning Frontier League MVP, Shayne Houck, blasted his fourth home run of the season, a two run shot, and pulled the Otters within a run after three.
The fifth inning was when the Otters finally broke through, loading the bases for Nik Balog after an intentional walk to Houck. Balog jumped on the first pitch from Grizzlies' starter Tyler Thompson and pulled a double down the right field line, plating two and putting the Otters up 5-4. The bullpen combination of Connor Little and Edgar Lopez slammed the door on the Grizzlies as Little (1-1) picked up the win and Lopez notched his fifth save in as many chances.
The momentum stayed on the side of the Otters in Game Two with the Otters scoring a pair in the first inning and then three more in the third, highlighted by another Balog RBI double and a Cory Urquhart two-run single. Will Oliver picked up his first win of the season (1-1) in six innings of one run ball.
Tonight's game will be the final game of the series against the Grizzlies and the final game of the homestand for the Otters. Preston Olson will put his perfect 3-0 record on the line (1.42 ERA) while the Grizzlies will send out Vincent Molesky and his 1-1 record and 9.31 ERA.
Game time is scheduled for 6:35 P.M. CDT with the pregame show featuring Mike Radomski, Bill McKeon and Jake Donnelly starting at 6:15 on 91.5 FM WUEV. You can also catch all the action on wuev.org or on EvansvilleOtters.com.
