Grizzlies Rally Late to Cruise Past Otters

SAUGET, Ill. - After trailing 2-0 early in Evansville, the Gateway Grizzlies scored 11 runs in Thursday's final three innings to beat the Evansville Otters, 13-3.
With the score tied a two runs a piece in the seventh, Grizzlies' infielder Ryan Soares delivered a two-run triple that gave Gateway (5-14) a 4-2 lead.
The Grizzlies' offense piled on with a seven-run eighth inning that started with two outs and nobody on base. Evansville reliever Blake Monar walked three straight hitters and then hit two Gateway batters to bring in two more runs.
Ryan Soares followed with another two-run hit while Rolando Gomez blasted a two-run homer to cap off the inning. Gateway took an 11-2 advantage into the bottom half of the eighth inning.
Grizzlies' starting pitcher Vincent Molesky (2-1) was solid in six innings on the mound. He allowed only two earned runs while dancing out of a big jam in the sixth inning to keep the score tied at 2-2. RHP Scott Harkin allowed an earned run in two innings of work while providing a shut down inning after the Grizzlies took the lead in the seventh.
Evansville (12-6) jumped out to an early lead as they tried to sweep the three-game set from Gateway. Shayne Houck, the reigning Frontier League Most Valuable Player, laced an RBI double in the first inning to put the Otters on the board. Otters' outfielder John Schultz hit his third home run of the year against Molesky in the second inning to make it 2-0.
After scratching across a run in the fourth inning, the Grizzlies pulled even in the sixth. With two outs and the bases clear, Blake Brown doubled to put the tying run in scoring position. Gateway first baseman Ben Waldrip then struck a double off the left field fence to even up the score at 2-2.
RHP Preston Olson picked up the loss for Evansville. He went 6.2 innings and allowed four runs against the Gateway offense.
The Grizzlies start a three-game series against the River City Rascals at GCS Ballpark on Friday night. RHP Max Schonfeld makes the start for Gateway.
