
Evansville notches back to back wins, eyeing sweep tomorrow

(EVANSVILLE, Indiana) - The Evansville Otters defeated the Rockford RiverHawks on Saturday night 8-5 in front of 3,131 fans at Historic Bosse Field.
Outfielder Greg Alexander scored the first run for Evansville when he hit a fly ball to left-center field. The ball dropped down for a double but was then thrown widly towards the Rockford RiverHawks dugout, allowing Alexander to come all the way around to score.
Trailing 1-0, Rockford would take advantage of a throwing error in the fourth inning to not only tie the game, but also take the lead. Catcher Cameron Dominguez ripped a two-run double to left field and outfielder Jeremy Richter added an RBI single for the 3-1 edge.
Following a solo home run from designated hitter Matt Greener, the Otters were down by three runs. They would cut into the deficit with a run-producing single from first baseman Mike Durant in the fifth and stage their largest rally in the next inning.
Down 4-2, the Otters started a two-out rally in the sixth. Greg Alexander tied the game on a two-run single up the middle and outfielder Jamar Walton followed with another two-run single on a looping fly ball to left field.
Ahead 6-4, Evansville would take advantage of another Rockford error in the next inning, adding an additional pair of runs.
The Rockford RiverHawks would stage a comeback in the eighth inning, scoring a run and loading up the bases. With one out, reliver Patrick Crider induced a fly ball and closer Eric Massingham came in for the final out of the inning, another fly out. The closer continued to throw in the ninth inning, striking out the side and slamming the door on an 8-5 Evansville Otters win.
Evansville improves to 14-33 with the victory as Rockford stumbles to 20-27.
Jeremy Thorne (2-6) earns the win for the Otters, allowing four runs (one earned) in six innings. Rockford's starter Guido Fonseca Jr did not factor into the decision after throwing 2 2/3 innings before leaving with a leg injury. The loss goes to reliever Tyler Hyde (1-3), who yielded two runs without recording an out. Closer Eric Massingham pitched 1 1/3 for his eighth save of the season.
The Otters have won both games to start this series and enter the final game before the All-Star Break looking for a sweep. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. tomorrow afternoon at Historic Bosse Field with right-hander Kyle Eastham (0-1, 5.54 Earned Run Average) throwing for the Otters and lefty Alex Syzmanski (3-1, 3.54 ERA) starting for the RiverHawks.
