River City Rascals News Release

O'Fallon, Mo. - River City jumped out to a 2-0 lead and tacked on three more runs on a total of 14 hits which was more than enough for starter Josh Lowey who earned his fourth win with a 5-1 score as the Rascals clinched the best first-half record in the Frontier League.

River City (32-14) got 7 2/3 innings from Josh Lowey (4-2) who allowed one run on eight hits and got more offensive help than he did in his last start against the Crushers, a 1-0 win.

The Rascals scored two runs in the third to give Lowey a 2-0 lead but the Crushers (21-25) scored a single run on three-straight hits in the fourth. River City responded in the bottom of the frame with a Joash Brodin RBI double and added two more runs in the fifth on a Stephen Holdren RBI double and a Jareck West homerun.

Lowey's only real trouble came in the eighth with a 5-1 lead when he allowed consecutive two-out singles followed by a walk to load the bases, but Derrick Miramontes struck out the final batter to end the inning, and pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his eighth save.

River City and Lake Erie play the rubber game tomorrow as they finish the first half of play with the All-Star break beginning on Monday. The Rascals send All-Star pitcher Zack Sterner (5-1) to the mound against the Crushers' Paul Fagan (3-5).
