Frederick Keys News Release

FREDERICK, MD -The Wilmington Blue Rocks pounded out 12 hits including seven for extra-bases, as the visitors earned a 9-3 victory over the Frederick Keys on Monday night at Harry Grove Stadium. Using a balanced offense attack, the Rocks had four players finish with multiple hits. Cam Gallagher drove in three RBIs thanks to a 2-for-4 night, while Zane Evans went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. In his first second-half start at Harry Grove Stadium, Branden Kline allowed four runs on six hits over 4.1 stanzas.

Wilmington strung together several long at-bats as well as two runs in the first off Kline (5-3). On the fourth pitch of the game, Bubba Starling stroked a solo shot to center. Jared Schlehuber then worked a 10-pitch plate appearance, before Kline walked Zane Evans. He later scored on triple by Cody Stubbs to make it 2-0.

The Blue Rocks added one more tally in the third following a stolen base by Terrance Gore and a throwing error by catcher Zane Chavez, while an RBI single by Gallagher in the third made it 3-0 Wilmington.

Kline worked into the fifth, but was removed with one out due to pitch count. Tossing 4.1 frames, the righty allowed four runs on six hits, while he walked three and struck out two. It was the Frederick native's second loss to Wilmington this season.

His counterpart, Christian Binford, proved tough to diagnose for the Keys. Over his first four innings, the Carolina League All-Star allowed only two hits. Frederick cracked him in the fifth though, thanks to a single by Chavez and an RBI double by Adrian Marin. In the seventh, the Keys added two more off Binford, thanks to a double by Trey Mancini, a sacrifice fly and a solo homer by Jason Esposito. Binford was removed after a single by Sammie Starr, but finished with his third straight quality start. Over 6.2 frames, he allowed three runs on eight hits and struck out six.

Zeb Sneed wrapped things up for the Blue Rocks, tossing 2.1 innings of hitless baseball out of the bullpen to go along with four strikeouts. The Keys have now dropped four out of five to begin the second-half.

Frederick and Wilmington play conclude their series on Tuesday night. Joe Van Meter (3-1, 4.54) toes the mound for the Keys and will be countered by right-hander Miguel Almonte (4-3, 4.48). First pitch is slated for 7:00 p.m. and the broadcast can be heard on 1450 AM The Source. For ticket information, fans can call 301-815-9939 or visit frederickkeys.com.
