Hillsboro Hops News Release
Hillsboro, OR - It was a night to forget for the Hillsboro Hops on the field, as their archrival Eugene Emeralds poured it on with 18 hits in a 14-0 blowout win. All nine hitters for Eugene had a hit, with the first six hitters in the lineup all recording multi-hit games. The 14-0 loss was the largest margin of defeat in a shutout loss in Hops' team history.
San Francisco Giants' #22 prospect Trevor McDonald entered the game with a sub 1.00 ERA and would lower that number on Thursday. He pitched five scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and five strikeouts without walking a batter. He left the game with a High-A season ERA of 0.38.
Joe Elbis was the Hillsboro starter and the Emeralds jumped all over him from the get-go. Elbis allowed the most hits ever by a Hillsboro pitcher in a single outing (12).
Eugene was 6-for-13 with runners in scoring position while scoring in six consecutive innings, including four muti-run innings, en route to a 14-0 win.
The Hops will re-group and face the Emeralds again on Friday at Ron Tonkin Field. First pitch is at 7:05 with the pregame show starting at 6:50 on Bally Live, Rip City Radio 620 and Portland's CW.
