Down East Wood Ducks News Release

Myrtle Beach, S.C. - Alex Eubanks and Cole Uvila were terrific on the mound for the Wood Ducks Sunday, combining to toss the first one-hitter of the season for the Wood Ducks, in a 7-0 shutout win.

The shutout for Down East (10-8, 60-28) is their 15th of the season, which matches the Dunedin Blue Jays for the most in Minor League Baseball.

The lone hit for the Pelicans came in the second inning on a Delvin Zinn single through the left side. Myrtle Beach would only get four other base runners on the night; three walks, and an error, and never got a runner to third base.

Eubanks (win, 8-2) fired six scoreless innings, giving up just one hit and a walk, while striking out four. He retired the final nine batters he faced in order.

Meanwhile the Wood Ducks got on the board in the second inning when Curtis Terry launched his second home run of the season to left field, a solo shot, to make it 1-0. Terry would take Paul Richan (loss, 8-4) deep again in the fourth, his second career multi-homer game, to give him 18 homers overall this season. That made it 2-0 Down East.

Terry's homers accounted for the only two base runners against Richan in his first four innings of work. The Woodies would then plate a pair of unearned runs against him in the fifth. Hasuan Viera reached on an error to begin the inning, and then Tyler Depreta-Johnson followed with a single to right. One batter later, Eric Jenkins singled to right-center to make it 3-0, and Julio Pablo Martinez then hit a sacrifice fly to push the Woodies out to a 4-0 advantage.

Richan gave up four runs (two earned) in six innings of work. He struck out five and did not walk a batter, allowing five hits.

Down East added on against Ethan Roberts in the seventh. Viera led off the inning with a single, stole second, and then scored on a Depreta-Johnson single back up the middle. Martinez then singled two batters later to put runners at the corners. The Woodies outfielder would then steal second, and on a low throw down, Depreta-Johnson would come across to score to make it 6-0. Josh Altmann then capped the scoring with a sac fly to put the Woodies on top 7-0.

Cole Uvila (save, 3) worked the final three innings scoreless out of the bullpen. He walked two and struck out four in relief to earn his third save of the season, all of which have come against Myrtle Beach.

The middle game of the three-game series is Monday at 7:05 p.m. The Pelicans send left-hander Ryan Kellogg (2-5, 4.32) to the mound, while the Wood Ducks have yet to name a starter for the contest. The pregame show will begin at 6:50 p.m. on 960AM The Bull, and online at 960thebull.com as well as on the MiLB First Pitch and TuneIn Radio Apps.
