Chivas USA Notes (1-1 vs. Houston Dynamo, Robertson Stadium, Houston, TX 7/18/2010)
- Midfielder Rodolfo Espinoza got his second consecutive assist in SuperLiga since joining Chivas USA last Wednesday and the Red-and-White tied 1-1 the Houston Dynamo on Sunday night during the SuperLiga 2010 double header at Robertson Stadium at Houston, Texas in front of 5,007 fans.
- With the result, Chivas USA got its first point in two games in Group A, while Houston reaches 4 points with the same amount of games. Pachuca and Puebla F.C. are playing tonight the second game in the double header at Robertson Stadium. The Red-and-White will have to wait for the Pachuca vs. Puebla result and hope for a positive outcome that will increase its chances of advancing to the second round with a win next Wednesday against Pachuca.
- Chivas USA will face Pachuca in the decisive final group play match at The Home Depot Center on Wednesday, July 18, at 7:30 p.m. PT For tickets or more information on the game, please call 1-877-CHIVAS-1.
- Espinoza took a corner kick at the 71st minute and found an unmarked Padilla, who headed the ball and scored the tying goal. Houston had gone up in the scoreboard very early in the game (6th minute) when Dominic Oduro broke behind the Chivas USA defense and slid the ball back across the box to Lovel Palmer, who blasted a shot from 15 yards that beat Chivas USA goalkeeper Dan Kennedy.
- Both Espinoza and forward Giancarlo Maldonado played 90 minutes. Espinoza has played the entire two games since singing on July 15, 2010.
- Defender Jonathan Bornstein had to come out of the game at the 24 minute after receiving a hard foul by Houston's Andrew Hainault.
- Post-Game video from Head Coach MartÃn Vásquez, Michael Lahoud, Maldonado and Espinoza will be available shortly on Dentro del Rebaño ('Inside the Flock'), the official blog of Chivas USA.
- Chivas USA Head Coach MartÃn Vásquez on tonight's match: "The first 15 minutes were all theirs. We were able to found our game in the second half and we got better. We lost our concentration in the first half and they scored on us. But with patience and good possession of the ball, we created some dangerous plays, one in the first half and another one on a corner kick that we were able to convert. We leave happy with the point and the way we improved our play in the second half, but a win could have been better"
- Chivas USA will travel to Los Angeles on Monday and will train at 10:00 am. on Tuesday ahead of its game against the Pachuca on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. PT at The Home Depot Center in Carson. For more information, or to purchase tickets, please call 1-877-CHIVAS-1 or visit cdchivasusa.com.
