Chicago Fire FC News Release
The Fire play their third and final match of SuperLiga 2010 when they host Pumas UNAM at TOYOTA PARK this Tuesday, July 20 at 8:30 PM CT (Galavision). It is the first-ever meeting between the Fire and the Mexican Primera Division side.
Both clubs enter Tuesday's match looking for their first victory in this year's SuperLiga tournament. In Saturday's doubleheader, the Fire were defeated by a 77th minute strike from New England Revolution forward Marko Perovic, while Pumas rallied to score two second-half goals to tie Monarcas Morelia 2-2 in an exciting back-and-forth match.
The 2010 edition of SuperLiga has been drastically different than the Fire's first foray into the international tournament, one in which they finished runners-up, losing on penalty kicks to Tigres UNAL in the SuperLiga 2009 final. After falling to Monarcas Morelia 5-1 and the New England Revolution 1-0 in the first two Group B matches, the Fire have been mathematically eliminated from advancing to the SuperLiga semifinals.
