(Edmonton) The Edmonton Eskimo Football Club officially announced the signing of free agent defensive back Davis Sanchez today. Terms of the deal were not released.

The 30 year-old Sanchez enters his fifth CFL season and comes with tremendous credentials. The Oregon product was the Montreal Alouettes' first round pick (6th overall) in the 1999 Canadian College Draft. Sanchez moved to the San Diego Chargers in 2001 becoming only the second Canadian-born player to start in the NFL. He returned to the CFL with the Calgary Stampeders in 2003. After one season with the Stamps, Sanchez was traded to Montreal in 2004 where he recorded 41 defensive tackles, three interceptions and six pass knockdowns.

"Davis is a proven player in our league and is great addition to our club. The fact that he is not only Canadian, but a starter, is an added bonus and I'm excited to have him coming to Edmonton," said Eskimo head coach Danny Maciocia.
