(Calgary) – Today Calgary Stampeders' Senior VP of Football Operations/Head Coach, Tom Higgins, announced the free agent signing of Receiver MarTay Jenkins. MarTay broke the NFL record for kick off return yards in a single season with 2,186 on 82 returns. He broke this record during the 2000 season in 16 games with the Arizona Cardinals.

As per Club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

"MarTay has plenty of NFL experience and currently holds the NFL record for kick off return yards in a season," stated GM Jim Barker. "His quickness, elusiveness and big play ability will be enhanced on the larger CFL field."

2003

Jenkins did not play season after being waived by the Atlanta Falcons in the final cutdown of training camp.

2002

Jenkins caught 21 passes for 250 yards (11.9) and added 20 kick-off returns for 559 yards (28.0), including a 95 yarder for a touchdown in eight games played in Arizona. In week 9, however he was lost for the season with a shoulder injury vs St. Louis. Jenkins returned two kick-offs for 22 and 21 yards and caught 18 yard pass. He was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week after a 95-yard kick-off return for a touchdown at Seattle on September 15 ... and finished the game with a 40.3 average on four returns. He opened the scoring vs San Diego on September 22 with a 35-yard touchdown reception on the Cards first possession running a double slant and catching the ball over the middle. Jenkins matched a single game career best six reception for 33 yards and returned two kick-off for 20 and 22 yards against New York.

2001

Handled kick-off-return duties and expanded role as third wide receiver with 49 kick-off returns for 1,120 yards (22.9- yard average) and 32 pass receptions for 18 yards (16.3-yard average) with three touchdowns in 13 games (three starts) ... opened season vs. Denver (Sept. 23) with seven kick-off returns of 35 and 39 yards ... lost the football, however, on second quarter return at the 23 yard line...Denver converted the turnover into a field goals to narrow Cardinal lead to 10-9...later delivered 30-yard catch midway through fourth quarter in Cards' final scoring drive to cut deficit to 38-17 ... First career 100-yard receiving game with six receptions for 119 yards at Philadelphia (Oct. 7), including the game-winning score on 35-yard catch with just nine seconds remaining in 21-20 comeback win...caught two passes for 25 yards in first half, including a 15-yarder on third-and-10 situation to keep 14-play, 70-yard scoring drive going...sizzling fourth quarter with four receptions for 94 yards, highlighted by catches of 16, 28 and 35 yards in the game-winning drive...made final catch on fourth-and-10 with 17 seconds remaining when he came back for the ball, spun, and dove into the end zone for the score...also returned five kick-offs for 87 yards....only one pass reception for 22 yards at Chicago (Oct. 14) but it converted a third-and –seven situation in fourth-quarter scoring drive...also returned two kick-offs for 54 yards, including the 100th return of his career, and added two tackles on kick coverage units... returned three kick-offs for 90 yards vs. Kansas City (Oct.21)...after fumbling away the ball on a 42-yarder in second quarter, atoned for the blunder in third-and-three with 11-yard catch to spark a 95-yard, 16-play scoring drive to give Arizona a 17-9 lead early in the fourth quarter .. also downed a 54-yard Scott Player punt at the one-yard line with 1:16 to play ...added one solo tackle and one assist on kick-coverage teams...answered the call in both the return game and from scrimmage vs. Detroit (Nov. 18) with 239 combined yards ... caught three passes for 90 yards with a touchdown and returned five kick-offs for 149 yards and impressive 29.8 yard average in 45-38 win.

2000

One of few bright spots of club's 3-13 season with all-time NFL records of 82 kick-off returns for 2,186 yards...broke previous marks of New Orleans' Tyrone Hughes (70 returns, 1,791 yards in 1996)...26.7-yard kick-off-return average ranked second in NFC, third in NFL, and was highest by Cardinal since Terry Metcalf's 27.4-yard average in 1975....Set Cardinals season records for kick-off returns and kick off-return yardage, breaking the 19997 standards of Kevin Williams-59 returns for 1,458 yards....eight kick-off returns at Jacksonville (Dec.10) also team single-game mark....98-yard kick-off return for a touchdown at Minnesota (Nov.12) was first by Cardinal since Roy Green's 106-yard return at Dallas Oct.21 1979....Fielded fourth-quarter kick-off at own two-yard line at Minnesota (Nov 12) and bolted up the middle for 98-yard touchdown return, first by a Cardinal since Roy Green's NFL –record 106-yard return in 1979 (Oct.21 at Dallas)...

1999

Inactive for first 13 contents following waiver acquisition from Cowboys...duty on special teams in final three outings vs. Buffalo (Dec. 19). At Atlanta (Dec. 26), and at Green Bay (Jan 2) ... originally a sixth-round selection (193rd overall) by Cowboys in the 1999 NFL Draft.

College

In less than three full seasons at Nebraska-Omaha (U.N.O), caught 67 passes for 1,439 yards (21.5-yard average with 12 touchdowns...also rushed 14 times for 213 yards four touchdowns and returned 24 kick-offs for 597 yards (24.9-yard average) and three touchdowns and gained 171 yards rushing on 10 carries with three more scores...averaged 30.3 yards on seven kick-off returns....suffered torn anterior cruciate in opening game of junior season...as a sophomore in 1996, caught 36 passes fro 848 yards with eight touchdowns, the most by a school receiver in 13 seasons...attended Northern Iowa Community College for one season.

Noteworthy

Football, track, and basketball standout at Des Moines North High School...attended Waterloo East H.S. as a freshman and sophomore...earned degree in sociology from U.N.O...Jenkins has been involved with toy and clothing drives during his time in Arizona with proceeds gong to Salvation Army, he participated in numerous Gatorade junior training camps to help instruct kids.
