Evansville Otters News Release
Evansville, IN - Five errors and six unearned runs doomed the Otters in a 10-5 loss to the Gateway Grizzlies Saturday night at GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Illinois. The Otters sloppy defense early in the game put them behind 7-0 after three innings, as they committed four errors.
John Ducey settled down after the third inning, setting down ten straight Grizzlies before giving up a leadoff double in the seventh and getting the hook.
The Otters got on the board in the sixth inning, plating three unearned runs of their own. After Javier Brown doubled, second baseman Brandon Peters mishandled a Greg Alexander ground ball with two outs. Alexander reached safely, and Tyler Diamond followed with his first professional home run, a high drive over the left field wall.
Jeremy Strack was the other bright spot on Friday, both offensively and defensively. In the bottom of the third, with Evansville already trailing 4-0, Strack flipped over the four-foot right field wall trying to bring a home run back. At the plate, Strack went 3-for-5 with a double and a ninth inning 2-run home run, his first of the year.
Grizzlies' starter Nathan Melek (3-2) went the distance, allowing only two earned runs in his first complete game of the year.
The three game series continues tomorrow at 6:05pm CDT.
