River City Rascals News Release

O'FALLON, MO - Daniel Howard took a shutout into the ninth inning and the Rascals held on for a 4-3 victory over the Miners Sunday night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. River City slammed three home runs in the win.

The Rascals (23-11) launched a pair of long balls in the first to spot Howard with a 2-0 lead. Chad Maddox lined the first pitch from Brett Scarpetta (1-1) just over the left field wall for a leadoff home run. Chris Colton followed later in the frame with his eighth blast of the season.

Howard (3-2) went the first eight innings for River City and started the ninth. Jereme Milons led off with a single and Joey Metropoulos broke up the shutout with his ninth homer of the season. Jason Lowey came in and allowed an Andrew Sweet double and a single to Tom Stack-Babich to plate another run. Lowey retired the next two in order to preserve the 4-3 win for the seventh save in eight chances.

Howard allowed the two runs on six hits with six strikeouts to only one walk for his third save. His outing tied Chris Ingoglia for the longest outing by a Rascal pitcher this season.

The Miners (20-15) allowed two runs in the fifth to trail 4-0. Scarpetta walked JoJo Batten and Kevin Reynolds went yard for the third time this season.

Scarpetta was pulled a batter later, tossing four innings allowing ten hits and four runs in the game.

Maddox, Colton, Scott Robinson and Jorge Gutierrez each had two hits in the contest. Maddox extended his hitting streak to nine games, tying Colton for the longest mark of the season.

The rubber match is tomorrow night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. Chris Ingoglia (4-2) is up against to be announced for Southern Illinois. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m.
