Lake Erie Crushers News Release

Avon, OH - Paul Fagan had it all working on the mound on Sunday as the Lake Erie lefty worked six commanding innings to lead the Crushers to a 4-1 win over the Traverse City Beach Bums at All Pro Freight Stadium.

Fagan allowed just a run on two hits in his six innings of work, while striking out a season-high nine batters. He now moves into a tie for the Frontier League-lead in wins with six. "Paul really had to battle today, throwing 100 pitches in six innings," said Lake Erie Manager John Massarelli. "But that's what your ace of the staff does when he doesn't have his best stuff. He battles."

The Crushers scored first as Jodam Rivera led off the bottom of the first with an infield single and would cross the plate thanks to a pair of errors on Beach Bums shortstop Andrew Stafford. Traverse City tied the game at one in the third as Al Barbato hit an RBI double to score Mike Epping.

Lake Erie would take control of the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. Andrew Davis hit a one-out triple and would score the go-ahead run on a Gordon Gronkowski RBI groundout. Tim Binkoski and Wayne Bond each added RBI doubles to give the Crushers a 4-1 advantage.

After taking the lead, the Crushers turned things over to their bullpen as Cristobal Mata and Jacinto Gonell combined to throw three shutout innings. Gonell was solid on the mound for the second night in a row as he earned his sixth save of the season.

The Crushers and Beach Bums will conclude their three game series on Monday night at 7:05. Josh Faiola will start for Lake Erie against Traverse City ace Brett Bostelman.
