Gateway Grizzlies News Release

SAUGET, IL-Brad Thoma contributed a home run, two RBIs, and perhaps a game-saving defensive play Sunday night to help lead the Gateway Grizzlies to their second consecutive win, 6-5 over the Evansville Otters. The win came in front of 3,591 at GCS Ballpark.

Evansville (10-25) had the tying run at third in the eighth with two outs. Otters' pinch-hitter hit a hot shot to third, that Thoma snagged sliding down to one knee. He got to his feet and threw to first. Grizzlies first baseman Charlie Lisk picked the throw, leaving the runner at third and preserving the one-run lead.

One inning earlier Thoma hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Brandon Johnson and putting the Grizzlies (13-21) on top to stay. Thoma homered in the fifth to put the Grizzlies up, at the time, 5-4.

Lisk gave the Grizzlies an early lead Sunday with a first-inning three-run home run. He now has 10 and a team-best 37 RBIs.

Grizzlies' starter Adam Bowling earned the win. Bowling pitched into the eighth, leaving after allowing a lead-off hit. He gave up five runs on 11 hits overall. He struck out one. Otters' starter Rashad Ford took the loss. He allowed all six runs on nine hits. He struck out four.

Brandon Peters had two hits for the Grizzlies. Newcomer Jon Quigley, making his professional debut, was 2-3 with an RBI. Joseph Scaperotta was 1-4 to extend his hitting streak to 17 games.

The Grizzlies will go for the sweep Monday night at GCS Ballpark. First pitch is 7:05 pm.
