Erie SeaWolves News Release

The SeaWolves (20-34) dropped a heartbreaking 5-4 extra- inning loss to the Akron RubberDucks (32-24) Saturday at Canal Park.

Erie's errors in the field haunted them in the bottom of the 10th inning. With Erie leading 4-3, Sicnarf Loopstok was stationed at third with one out. Andrew Calica skipped a ball to Sergio Alcantara at short, but the Erie shortstop bounced a throw through Dominic Ficociello. Loopstok scored to tie the game, and Calica moved to second. Joe Navilohn got an out back with a Willi Castro strikeout. Joe Sever came to the dish for Akron. The designated hitter flared a ball into right, Chad Sedio charged up and dropped the ball. Calica rushed to score, and Akron won the game 5-4.

The SeaWolves scored first in the third inning off of Jake Paulson. Ficociello cracked a fly ball into centerfield, giving Jake Robson enough time to score on the sac fly.

Willi Castro's errant throw to first in the fifth inning allowed Robson to score for the second time in the game in the 5th. Erie led 2-0 into the bottom of the fifth.

Loopstok launched a home run off of Erie starter Beau Burrows in the bottom of the 5th to cut the Erie lead in half at 2-1.

Akron took the lead in the bottom of the 7th off of Burrows. Ka'ai Tom brought home a run on a double to tie the game, and Loopstok's sac fly scored the go ahead run. The RubberDucks led 3-2 going into the 8th inning.

Alcantara belted a RBI-triple to tie the game in the 8th inning at 3-3, and the SeaWolves would score one more run in the 10th inning after a Sam Haggerty error.

The RubberDucks granted Navilohn (0-1) the loss and Argenis Angulo (1-1) picked up his first win on the season. Burrows worked in a quality start for Erie, hurling for 6.2 IP, striking out six and only allowed three runs.

The SeaWolves return to Canal Park Sunday to square off against the Akron RubberDucks in the series finale at 2:05 PM.
