ENTERING TONIGHT'S ACTION...
Tonight, the SeaWolves look to avoid dropping to 0-5 as they begin a three-game series at NYSEG Stadium against the Binghamton Mets (New York Mets). The 'Wolves fell to 0-4 following a 5-1 loss to Trenton on Sunday. Erie finished the series against the Thunder scoring just three runs on 15 hits in four games. Erie's three runs scored are the fewest in the EL...Erie's 0-4 start is the worst in club history. Erie went 0-3 at Harrisburg in 2006 before winning its first game...Through the first four games, the 'Wolves have hit just .126 as a team. The 'Wolves pitching staff currently ranks fifth in the league with a 3.38 team ERA. The Howlers starting pitchers have combined to allow just six earned runs over the first 20 innings pitched...Lefty Andy Oliver makes his professional debut for Erie tonight. Oliver was drafted by the Tigers in the second round of the 2009 June draft out of Oklahoma State University. Oliver did not pitch in the minors last season and made 11 appearances with Peoria in the Arizona fall league following the season...The B-Mets dropped three of four to defending league champion Akron in their first series of the season. The Mets pitching staff ranks last in the league with a 7.86 ERA. Binghamton's offense currently ranks second in the EL, hitting .321 as a team.
TODAY'S NOTABLES -
- Erie won the season series over Binghamton in 2009 6-3. The SeaWolves and B-Mets meet 15 times in 2010. The 15 games against Binghamton is the most games Erie will play against an Eastern Division opponent. - Erie's roster fields just two Double-A rookies, INF Justin Henry and LHP Andy Oliver." Erie's hitting coach Glenn Adams is not with the team due to pre-season hip surgery. Tigers minor league roving catching instructor Andrew Graham will handle hitting coach duties until Adams is able to return. Graham played for Erie in 2006." The SeaWolves have started the season 0-4 on the road. Erie was the worst road team in the EL in 2009 going just 26-45 away from Jerry Uht Park. The last time Erie finished the season with a winning road record was 2007 when the club went 38-34." Erie and Altoona are the only two clubs in the EL without a home run. - Erie and New Britain are the only two remaining winless teams in the EL." Defensively, the 'Wolves have committed five errors through four games. The five errors is tied for most in the EL. The 'Wolves have committed at least one error in each game.
