Akron RubberDucks News Release
Akron left fielder Johnathan Rodríguez had two hits to extend a season-long nine-game hitting streak, but the Erie SeaWolves hit three home runs and struck out 16 batters to defeat the RubberDucks, 6-3, in the fourth game of a six-game series at UPMC Park Saturday night.
Turning Point
With Akron leading, 1-0, in the bottom of the second inning, Akron right-hander Hunter Stanley allowed a leadoff game-tying home run to center fielder Ben Malgeri, who homered for a third straight plate appearance, going back to Friday night. Third baseman Gage Workman doubled to center field, and beat a throw to third base on a subsequent fielder's choice. Designated hitter Diego Rincones grounded into a fielder's choice that scored the go-ahead run, right fielder Justice Bigbie added an RBI single, and left fielder Wenceel Perez had an RBI fielder's choice to make it 4-1.
Mound Presence
Stanley yielded the four-run second inning but rebounded with two scoreless innings. In the fifth inning, he allowed consecutive homers to shortstop Andrew Navigato and first baseman Jake Holton that made it 6-1. Stanley was charged five earned runs in four innings with one walk and three strikeouts. Right-hander Jordan Jones entered and walked a batter before retiring eight in a row to last for three scoreless, hitless innings with one strikeout. Right-hander Bradley Hanner pitched a perfect eighth inning.
Duck Tales
Akron took a first-inning lead against left-hander Brant Hurter. Designated hitter José Tena grounded a leadoff single to center field and stole second base. Hurter hit third baseman Angel Martínez with a pitch and walked Rodríguez to load the bases, before shortstop Juan Brito hit a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead. In the sixth, Hurter walked Martínez, Rodríguez doubled, and Brito hit another sacrifice fly. In the seventh, Martínez tripled off the center-field wall, and Rodríguez hit an RBI single - his team-high 39th RBI - but it was the final RubberDucks hit.
